Tom Eyles

What is your average day like:
I jokingly say I work French time as I think it’s important to be up early and ahead of the day by checking overnight news and replying to quick emails on the train in. When at my desk, the focus shifts to the meetings in my diary – often a split between client and business responsibilities and replying to any more complicated emails. Over the course of the day, I’ll bounce between meetings and keeping on top of my inbox. Where possible I’ll aim for meetings to be face to face as this helps fluency of conversation and reading what’s most important to people. Video calls have been great for helping non-City based clients but elements of in person meetings like reading body language will always be invaluable. Next stop is then back on the train home for bathtime with my three young children and a debrief with my wife about their days at nursery and school.
What do you like most about your job?
I’ve always been pretty analytical with a background in Maths/ Science throughout education but this job lets me apply that understanding to people’s situations rather than being in a dark room with a spreadsheet! I really value being able to translate complex concepts into simple and understandable actions. Our industry is flooded with jargon and breaking that down so people can see their options and plans clearly laid out is really important to me. I always enjoy when an approach is agreed upon and then over review meetings, we can see these plans work regardless of the unpredictable external factors out there.
How long have you worked in Financial Services
I started work in The City in early 2012 with what in hindsight was a crash course in financial advice; however it gave me a good grounding for where working hard can lead to. Since late 2017 I’ve had the responsibility of running a growing firm alongside a growing client base which has given me additional perspectives such as when advising business owners on their affairs.

I’ve had Tom as my adviser for years. He set clear goals, streamlined my investments, and explains everything simply before handling the execution. I only wish I’d found him sooner.

A typical day starts early with a “French-time” routine: reviewing overnight news and clearing quick emails on the train before a blend of client meetings, business responsibilities, and deeper advisory work at his desk. Face-to-face meetings remain his preferred approach, allowing him to read body language and understand what truly matters to clients. His workday ends with the journey home for bathtime with his three young children and a debrief with his wife.

Outside of work, Tom channels the resilience once intended for a Royal Marines career into endurance sports, having completed multiple marathons and Ironman triathlons.
