Haydn Brooks

What is your average day like:
I’m a morning person, so I like to get up early and beat the traffic into London. I’ve found that I do my best thinking in the morning, so I make a habit of tackling the most challenging or technical tasks first, when my focus is sharp and distractions are low. I leave the more routine or collaborative work for the afternoon, when the pace naturally slows. One non-negotiable in my day is exercise. If I’m in the office, I’ll always carve out time to move. It’s a mental reset and keeps me sharp for the rest of the day. I aim to have three meaningful meetings each day, whether that’s with a long standing client, a new prospect, or one of our younger advisers who I’m supporting through their development. I especially enjoy meeting clients in person. It’s where the real value comes from: stronger relationships, deeper trust, and a much better understanding of someone’s personal goals and priorities. Once I’m home, that’s family time. I don’t check emails in the evening. Instead, I focus on being fully present with my daughters and making sure we end the day with as much fun and laughter as possible.
What do you like most about your job?
For me, it’s about enabling clients to feel more confident and in control of their finances, so they can get on with life and focus on what matters most to them. That sense of freedom and clarity is powerful, and it's incredibly rewarding to help provide it. I genuinely enjoy working with people. Whether it’s clients, colleagues, or others across the industry, it’s the relationships that make this job so engaging. Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time helping families with inheritance tax planning. I really value the opportunity to get to know everyone involved, understand what they care about, and help them make decisions that align with how they want to spend their time and pass on their wealth.
How long have you worked in Financial Services
I started in the industry in 2011, so it’s been 14 years now. For the past eight, I’ve been helping to build and run Lathe & Co, where my focus has been on combining high quality advice with a down to earth, relationship driven approach.
